Description
The Municipal Cemetery in Cieszyn was founded in 1891. Currently in is the largest necropolis of the city with the total area of 6,94 ha. Divided into square or rectangle sections, planted with trees. The sections from the oldest part of the cemetery have been marked with the cast-iron plates.
The entrance of the cemetery leads through the main gate, built in the Austrian Baroque style, with the dome and the attached bell.
The gate has got adjacent:
– funeral chapel,
– administration building.
The cemetery is divided into the new and the old part. Many personages have been buried along the main alley as well as in the adjacent plots, i.e. Gustaw Morcinek, Franciszek Popiołek, Ludwik Brożek, I World War soldiers. There is a mass grave of 81 victims of the Hitler’s executions by firing squad nearby.
