Katowice

Description
One of the largest residential buildings in Poland is located in the very heart of Katowice at Korfantego Avenue. The building was constructed in the years 1967–1972 using large prefabricated panels. The structure rests on reinforced concrete legs which are supposed to facilitate flow of the wind and minimise tectonic earthquakes. The enormous structure has 15 storeys and 762 flats and can house 3,000 residents. The building was designed by architect Mieczysław Król, who modelled it after Le Corbusier’s Unité d’Habitation.
