Sobieski Square in Bytom
Bytom

Description
One of the biggest squares in Bytom. Located in the very centre of the city, with the building of Municipal Public Library and Upper Silesia Museum located nearby. The restarurant called Museum is located under the building’s arcades.
From the 19th century the square served commercial purposes. Initially in the place of the square stood the peasant farm that later was transformed into the market and finally into the place for the circus, funfair or carnival. The turn of the 19th and 20th centuries brought another changes. The area was developing and it stopped to serve only commercial and entertaining purposes for the city dwellers. Plethora of parades, processions and military trainings took place here.
At the moment numerous benches with the trees and historical sett stones remaiding about the past can be found around the square.
