Palace, Monastery

Rudy

Description

A former Cistercian Monastery and Palace complex in Rudy is a combination of the Humble Virgin Mary Church and the Centre for Formation and Education of Diocese of Gliwice. The Monastery, formerly one of the biggest churches in Silesia, was erected around the year 1300 and made of brick and sandstone.

It is Latin Cross in plan and the altar is facing east. A chancel with oratories is of isomeric projection. This type of construction is characterized by ascetic austerity.

In the 17th and 18th centuries the Monastery was reconstructed into the Baroque style church. A façade was enriched with an antechapel with a portal, with a figure of Mary with the Infant Jesus. Gables with side volutes have been added to the elevation of the transept and chancel. Inside we can find rib vaults and small, ogival windows.

Around the Monastery there are among others:

Parks– the one surrounding the Palace and the Landscape Park,

yard,

garden of Eden,

ponds.

The place belongs to the Cistercian Route.
