Film Center – Kosmos Cinema
Katowice
Description
The modernistic building that houses the Kosmos Cinema was built on Sokolska Street in the 60s of the 20th century. After the renovation the building’s façade received a new, more traditional look. The neon sign made its return to its original position. The building houses two movie theatres: Nostromo, which can accommodate up to 367 guests and Solaris, equipped with 47 seats.
The building also houses:
– The café,
– Media library,
– Reading room,
– Silesian film library,
– Offices,
– Workshops.
The movie theatres are preceded by the hall designed by the Wzorro Design studio based in Katowice. The interiors resemble the main architectural principles of the 50s and 60s, when the Kosmos Cinema was originally founded. What is more the architects preserved the distinctive mosaic presenting Pan Twardowski sitting on the cockerel.
