Jakub Sarwas
Description
Jakub Sarwas (composer, conductor, instrumentalist) was born in Gliwice in 1977. He began his musical education at the State Music School in Gliwice, graduating in 1996. From 1996 to 2001, he studied at the Faculty of Composition, Conducting, and Music Theory in the class of Professor Edward Bogusławski (composition – diploma with distinction) at the Academy of Music in Katowice. From 2002 to 2006, he completed postgraduate studies at the Higher School of Music in Cologne under the supervision of Johannes Fritsch (composition), Hans Ulrich Humpert (electronic composition) and Klarenz Barlow (computer music).
He completed his master’s studies (Konzertexamen) with Professor Johannes Fritsch. During his studies, he organized and produced electronic and chamber music concerts. He is a member of the Polish Society of Contemporary Music and the Gliwice Music Society. He was a member of the Polish Composers’ Union’s “Youth Circle” (serving as its chairman from 2000 to 2002).
He is the founder of the Sarwas Project and the Sarwas Ensemble with which he collaborates as a composer, conductor and instrumentalist. He composes music for chamber and symphonic ensembles, electronic and electroacoustic music as well as film and theatre. He frequently employs electronic means and new media in conjunction with various instrumental ensembles, applying them to musical, stage and multimedia forms.
